Women’s History Month: Celebrating Female Leaders in Construction

March may be Women’s History Month, but we celebrate being a part of a female-majority construction company every month of the year! FBC Remodel is unique from many other construction companies in that over half of our staff and leadership team is made up of women!

This week, we interviewed three of our female leaders from our Denver and Minneapolis offices about what leadership means to them, and what makes working at FBC Remodel a one-of-a-kind gig.

Ashley Rawling

Director of People and Purpose

Q: What does leadership mean to you?

A: Being in leadership means supporting my team by providing them with the tools and resources they need to be successful, being an ear or a sounding board when needed, and helping them to develop solutions when necessary.

Q: One of FBC’s team core values is being “team first”. What does that mean to you?

A: Being team first means putting my team ahead of myself and making decisions based on what is best for the team as a whole. This means ensuring my decisions and the decisions of leadership are made by incorporating the needs of the team.

Q: What do you love most about working in the construction industry?

A: I love being a part of an industry that is so creative. I’m so proud of the talent in this company and watching what we can create come to life.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at FBC Remodel?

A: The people and culture are my favorite things about working at FBC. We hire incredibly talented, intelligent, and forward-thinking individuals who I am so proud to work with. We also have a culture that promotes growth and challenges our team. We’re quirky, passionate, and certainly never dull.

Q: What motivates you?

A: Ensuring people feel joy when they come to work and spread that joy into the communities we work in is what motivates me most. Seeing our people grow and thrive throughout the pandemic has also been incredible to watch.

Kaila Trossen

Production Leader

Q: What does leadership mean to you?

A: Truly understanding your team, what motivates them, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and creating an environment where the team feels inspired, encouraged, and supported to work together toward a common goal and make their dreams a reality.

Q: One of FBC’s team core values is being “team first”. What does that mean to you?

A: Making sure my team’s interests and needs are taken care of and supported both personally and professionally.

Q: What do you love most about working in the construction industry?

A: No two days are alike. I have always had a love for hands-on work and building. Being apart of it at work every day brings me joy.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at FBC Remodel?

A: I love the team, our designs, and seeing beautiful projects be brought to life before my eyes. I enjoy changing people’s lives and turning our completed projects over for clients to use for years to come!

Q: What motivates you?

A: Creatively solving problems and process improvement, learning, leading, being part of a team that sets and accomplishes their goals, and my children.

Director of Operations

Q: What does leadership mean to you?

A:  Leading someone to achieve all their goals, both personally and professionally. Leading [also means training] someone to be able to take my job and be better at it than I can ever be!

Q: One of FBC’s team core values is being “team first”. What does that mean to you?

A: Doing what’s best for the team — not what’s best for one group or person — no matter what.

Q: What do you love most about working in the construction industry?

A: Being challenged on constantly changing codes, terminology, pricing challenges, and finding efficiencies.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at FBC Remodel?

A: The team. I come to work every day to be apart of this team and support them!

Q: What motivates you?

A: Being challenged to be better.
