What to Expect with a Whole-Home Remodel
A whole-home remodel is a massive, but exciting, investment for your forever home. Remodeling your home requires a huge commitment, a lot of patience, and the willingness to have construction disrupt your life for a few months.
With a project of the size, we recommend working with a design-build firm that’s by your side from concept through design and construction. Since a home remodel is such a significant undertaking, it’s important to hire a team that can handle the heavy lifting on your behalf. After all, you want to be excited about your project — not stressed!

Expect Mess and Disruption During Your Home Remodel
Remodeling in real life doesn’t look like HGTV, and we’re honest about that! Depending on how many rooms you’re remodeling, it may be necessary to take construction in phases if you can’t temporarily move out of your home. Your project manager will speak to you prior to construction to figure out logistics for how we can best minimize the disruption that’s sure to happen during a large-scale remodel.
Timing your remodel just right to mimize inconvenience is key. Some examples of this include:
Remodeling a kitchen during the summer. Having comfortable access to the outdoors allows you to grill meals, have BBQs with friends, and have picnics with the family.
Remodeling a basement in a separate phase from the rest of the home. You can live in the basement during a main floor remodel, and vice versa.
Taking your whole-home remodel in phases. You can work with your design-build team to take your remodel one room at a time. This way, you can shift your day-to-day to the rest of your home as that room is being built. However, your overall construction time from start to completion will be longer.
Moving out temporarily. If you have access to a second home, vacation house, or rental, moving out of your home will allow you to knock out the entire whole-home remodel in one phase.
It’s also important to note the mess that is bound to occur with such a large-scale remodel. Since a team of tradesmen will be working in your home, our team will be placing a portapotty on your property for their use. Because of the large amount of material being used in your remodel, we’ll also need to place a full-sized dumpster outside your home.
As for dust, we do our best to keep the site as clean as possible, but dust is inevitable. Some steps we take to minimize dust include sectioning the construction area off with plastic, clearing out the area fully (no personal items near the site), and cleaning up the site, and disposing of any mess at the end of every day.

Now that we’ve prepared you for what to expect, now let’s review the actual construction process! Depending on your scope, you may not need every single one of these steps, but it’s more likely with a whole-home remodel.
We break construction into two major phases, and we make sure to survey you directly at every major benchmark to ensure you’re satisfied with the work thus far.
