Bathroom Remodel Planning Guide: Design Guide and Tips
A bathroom remodel allows you to turn a standard restroom into a relaxing oasis for you and your family. There’s a lot you can do with design, functionality, and features that will ensure you’ll love the space for years to come.
So, let’s get planning! Here is our quick guide to crafting your bathroom remodel:
Get Bathroom Design Inspiration
You’re likely remodeling your bath because you’ve seen other bathroom designs, either in person or online, that you’d like to bring to life in your own home. The easiest way to get a feel for your style is through inspiration photos!
Use websites like Pinterest, Houzz, and Instragram to create a collection of the designs that speak to you the most. Look deeper into the details — what faucets, light fixtures, and showerheads do you gravitate towards? From there, look at common patterns and designs to best define your style. Prior to your design consultation, we recommend sending your favorite inspiration photos to your designer with notes of what you like most from each photo. That way, they can start to get to know you before they even step foot in your home!

What is the Scope of Your Remodel?
Finding the right partner for your new bathroom is the most important part of your project! To narrow down what you should be hiring for, you first have to figure out how much work you need to get the fit and function you want.
Some questions to ask yourself:
- Am I rearranging this space? If you’re looking to move or add features in your existing layout, your project will require space planning.
- Do I need to gut the space? If the bath needs to be completely scrapped and rebuilt, this will require more work and a higher cost.
- Am I mostly focused on new fixtures and a modern look?
- Am I just wanting a simple refresh?
FBC Bathroom Remodels
Bathroom remodeling with FBC will take your bathroom to the next level. Remodels are great for those looking to space plan, rearrange, expand, or completely gut and rebuild your bathroom. Remodels are the perfect choice for those luxurious upgrades, like custom vanities, soaking tubs, and beautiful, spacious showers.
With a remodel, you’ll work with one of our expert architectural designers to ensure no square inch goes unused. Your designer will present two 3D renderings — one that’s your exact vision and the other that’s focused on creative space planning. From there, you’ll collaborate with your designer to come up with your perfect final design.
Bathroom remodels are completely custom-built based on the vision of the homeowner. This means the price of your remodel can range depending the size of the space, scope of work, and the quality of finishes you pick out. There is no one “price per square foot” that works for every project.
With that being said, our general pricing ranges for bath remodels are:
- Low-range: $25k
- Mid-range: $50 – 70k
- High-range: $90k
To lower the cost, you can also choose to focus on simply “removing and replacing” cabinets, countertops, and finishes in your space (rather than extensive space planning/gutting the bathroom).

Get the Most From Your Design Consultation
We recommend choosing your top two or three potential design partners and booking design consultations with each one. Consultations are almost always complimentary, and booking a few appointments will allow you to compare and contrast!
Design consults are your opportunity to connect with your designer and get all of your questions answered. Some aspects of your project to discuss with your designer include:
- What’s working and not working in your current space
- Your current storage and whether or not it’s sufficient
- How the bathroom currently flows, and how you want the fit and function to improve
- The priorities for your project. Create a list of your must-have’s and nice-to-have
- Your budget range. If you’re open with your designer about your budget from the first appointment, they will work with that budget and create a design you’ll love that doesn’t break the bank

Collaborate With Your Designer as Much as Possible
The greatest sign of a good designer is a passion for collaboration with the homeowner. With FBC, you’ll work in partnership with your designer to make sure your true vision comes to life. Following a design consultation, you’ll have an ideas meeting, where your designer presents 3D renderings based on your conversation during the consult.
This is where the collaboration happens! Communication is key during this step. Be up-front about the aspects you really love and completely transparent about what you dislike. In that meeting, you’ll tweak and change the design in that live 3D to settle on your perfect design (before you even spend a dime!). The more open, honest communication you have with your designer, the better result you’ll see after construction.
