Have you made remodeling your kitchen your new year’s resolution?
There are a number of popular kitchen design styles in this day and age, and creating your custom kitchen from scratch can seem like an intimidating task! Luckily, our team is here to help you every step of the way.
2021 trends are a combination of both bringing back the traditional and breaking the norm. It’s becoming easier to get inspired and creative with your colors, finishes, and storage (if you so choose). If a more contemporary, freeform style isn’t your thing, there are still a lot of minimal and neutral palettes that are on-trend!
Here, we’ll outline our top seven kitchen remodel styles that are trending in the new year.
1. Pops of Color
We love a little adventure with our kitchen design! Pops of color have been making their appearance more and more over the last year. We’re seeing a lot of bold colors, specifically blues and greens, against an otherwise neutral palette. Color can be used in cabinetry, islands, countertops, or walls. Depending on how permanent you want your color to be, you can choose to install cabinets with your chosen color pop or simply paint a wall in your kitchen. Your options are limitless!
2. Free-Flowing Design
According to Homes and Gardens, kitchen design is seeing a deviation from choosing just one design style. Most homeowners think they have to go “all in” on one texture, palette, or color to craft a great flow for their kitchen. However, when done tastefully, contrasting patterns and colors across your cabinets, backsplash, island, or flooring can give your kitchen a unique, eclectic feel that no other home has! Work with your designer to find those pops of individuality and make your kitchen feel like “you”.
3. Darker Finishes and Woods
Darker palletes are trending for remodels in many parts of the home, and the kitchen is no exception! Brown-black and black cabinets, finishes, and flooring are not only timeless, they give your home a sophisticated, sleek feel that is guaranteed to grow with you and your family over time. Some homeowners go all-in with the dark palette, while others contrast darker cabinetry with pops of white and gold or silver embellishments. A dark layout is also popular when choosing a design that blends in with the rest of the home that’s not getting a remodel.
4. Organic, Natural-Looking Wood Finishes
Bring a connection to the outdoors into the heart of your home! We’ve already talked about cabinets with pops of color and darker tones, but we’re also seeing a trend of natural-looking finishes in kitchen cabinetry, islands, and more! Using those lighter wood colors in a sleek design will give you a more organic, bright feel in your kitchen. Paired with white contrasting elements, minimalistic fixtures, and great appliances, your space will “wow” every guest in your home!
5. Marble and Quartz Countertops
As far as countertops go, marble and quartz are two of the most popular options. In addition to being timeless and easy to match with the rest of your design, quartz and marble give a clean, luxurious feel to your kitchen that never goes out of style. Marble is a natural stone that looks stunning in the home, but it’s worth noting that it can scratch easily and takes a little extra maintenance. Quartz, in comparison, is slightly less expensive than marble and has more durability to it.
6. More Storage and Room For the Family
With the last year bringing about a new wave of working remotely, families are spending more time indoors and maximizing their space for the best fit possible. From this, we’ve seen homeowners move away from minimalist, open storage and get back to more practical, space-saving options. More cabinet space and creative ways to organize the kitchen (like a sliding vertical drawer for spices) will certainly be a major trend in 2021.
Remodeling also gives you an opportunity to take your existing layout and reconfigure your kitchen to best fit the entire family. Large islands and lots of seating are extremely popular, as well as an open layout for easy access to all parts of the kitchen.
7. Large Islands
Like we mentioned, kitchen islands are more popular than ever. Particularly, we’re seeing islands getting bigger and better. Some creative and useful islands include expanded islands, double islands, multi-level, and islands with an extra cooktop. This design option prevents you from having to take up more space with a dining table, as these large islands can comfortably fit the whole family.
How FBC’s Designers Partner With You For Your Perfect Kitchen
So, how do you take these design style options and choose what you love most for your kitchen? We’re here to help.
The FBC process is built to support you in your kitchen remodel every step of the way. Our design process, specifically, allows you to flex your creativity in partnership with a designer who’s an expert in virtually every style. You can feel confident that our team puts you, the homeowner, first, and we’re here to bring your vision to life before anything else.
Our design process first starts with a complimentary design consultation, where we’ll meet with you and preview your space. This is where we get to know you, your day-to-day lifestyle, and your design tastes. We’ll then come out to your home and take measurements of your kitchen.
The next step is the ideas meeting, where we bring your new kitchen to life! Using live 3D renderings, we’ll show you two versions of your dream kitchen. Typically, one version is what you were envisioning verbatim, and the other is a creative take on your design. We find that most of our clients draw elements from both versions to get that final product.
If you’d like to move forward with our process, we’ll take a deposit for cabinets only and move on to the final plan review. In this meeting, we’ll finalize the design, go over every element of your remodel, and present you with a final, guaranteed, itemized cost for the entirety of the project. From there, our project management team will take over and build your new kitchen! All you have to do is sit back, relax, and get excited about your new space. Remodeling your kitchen has never been this easy.
